If I were to go into any church and ask, “How many of you believe that at the cross, Jesus’ payment was once for all time?” I would get rousing amens. And if I said, “How many of you believe that the cross is our only access to the grace of God?” I would get applause in agreement. And yet, if I said, “Won’t it be great when we finally get to Heaven, and experience perfection?” I would still get the same agreement from people, longing for something in the future. But these things are actually a contradiction.
Romans 5:2 (NKJV) through whom [Jesus] also we have access by faith into this grace…
This verse says that Jesus (specifically the cross) is our access into all the grace that God has in store for us. Not to mention this next verse…
Hebrews 10:19-20 (NKJV) Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh,
This verse is saying that Jesus’ broken flesh at the cross (symbolized by the veil in the temple) is our access into Heaven (symbolized by the Holiest Place – Hebrews 9:24).
These are just a couple of verses which explain how Jesus’s death at the cross is a once-for-all payment, through which we access all God’s grace. While most Christians agree Jesus will never pay another price, and most agree that Jesus’ death is our only access to God’s grace, most of the church is still waiting for access to certain aspects of His grace in the future.
Preachers will tell people that while we’re on this Earth, it is inevitable that we will suffer problems because, “After all, we live in a fallen world.” Preachers will also say that our bodies inevitably experience some problems now because we’re still waiting for a glorified body at Jesus’ return. Not to mention, some people are just waiting on “God’s timing” for them to receive. But if we’re still waiting for anything at all in the future, do we really believe the cross is our access?
If the cross is our access into all the grace of God, and Jesus died 2,000 years ago, then why are we waiting? The truth is, while we may say Jesus’ death is our only access, most don’t truly believe that. We believe Jesus’ death is access to certain things, while His second coming must give us access to other things, like perfect protection from this fallen world and perfect glory for our bodies. Because if we really believed Jesus’ death was our complete access, we wouldn’t be waiting for anything. If we really believed Jesus’ death was a door into every good thing we could ever want, then we wouldn’t be waiting for anything, because Jesus already died.
There are so many scriptures we could speak about to prove we don’t need to wait, but the simple point that grounds me in this truth is knowing that the cross is my access into what I need and the cross already happened. Therefore, I’m able to access anything and everything now.
Jesus really did pay a price once for all. In His second coming, He’s not coming back to pay any price or provide any grace that He missed the first time. Notice, there will be no veil torn in His second coming. That means there will be no access given. All access to the grace of God was paid for at the cross. The only reason most of us are not walking around in glorified bodies, on a new Earth, right here and now, is simply because of knowledge (see “The Revealing” material). Jesus provided all the glory He will ever provide, but people do not know it. It is through knowledge that we receive what Jesus provided at the cross (2 Peter 1:2). This is exactly how you got saved. Jesus already provided salvation, yet you didn’t receive it until you knew it.
There is no health, youth, pain relief, freedom from death, power toward wealth, and no wiping away of tears, that Jesus has not already provided at the cross. That’s why He said, “It is finished.” And we can take assurance from those words. God is not holding out on you. He paid so you can have everything you need or want today. Just believe Him and grow in that knowledge (Ephesians 3:12)!
If the cross already happened and we’re still waiting for certain things, then we’re under the impression that the cross is only partial access to God’s grace. Otherwise, we wouldn’t be waiting for anything. For some, this may be hard to accept because it goes against what you’ve heard, but for everyone, this should be excellent news.
Some people are waiting for Heaven, some for when Jesus comes back, and some of us are just waiting on “God’s timing.” As if God has a magic button He’s waiting to press before you can start seeing miracles in your life. No, His timing was 2,000 years ago. He provided the best for every area of our life and we can start accessing that immediately. The only time necessary is the time it takes for us to grow in the knowledge of it, but we can start today!
Don’t be discouraged in your growth. Stand strong with confidence. It bears wonderful fruit every time, if you remain steadfast in it (Hebrews 10:35).
Any time another person or even your own heart says you can’t receive something now, remember, you have a Door who says you can! I’d believe Him!
