BIG Plans, BIG Rest – Part 2: Company Card

Length: 7 minutes

In our last part, we were explaining that many people (even unconsciously) won’t let their mind accept God’s full plan for their life because they don’t want the work and stress that comes with doing something BIG! The good news is, God has big plans but He’s not asking you to fulfill them!

Many Christians don’t even realize they’re doing it, but they won’t allow their mind to think too big. They won’t allow their minds to grasp the full glory of God in them. They won’t allow their mind to accept all the supernatural things God wants to do in their life!

You may ask, “Why would anyone do that?” It’s certainly not because people don’t want supernatural results! It’s not because people don’t want better. They won’t allow their mind to go there because they know they can’t handle the work, stress, or finances it takes to do it! As if, “It’s good, but it’s too good!” So, they settle for something more “practical.”

This is exactly what the people of Israel did when God showed them Canaan! ALL of the spies thought the land was good – all of them! The problem was, they figured it was going to be too much work to get there! So, they refused it.

They would have rather gone back to Egypt to be slaves, than to accept the fight it would take to possess that land! All the while, God wasn’t asking them to fight! God wasn’t asking them to work! If they would have merely believed His gospel, He would have brought them in there!

Numbers 14:8-9 (NKJV) If the LORD delights in us [faith], then He will bring us into this land and give it to us, ‘a land which flows with milk and honey.’ 9 Only do not rebel against the LORD, nor fear the people of the land…

As it was with Israel, so it is today. God wants to live through us! He’s put a big inheritance inside of us and has big plans for our lives, but He wants to fulfill His plan for our lives Himself, if we will just believe Him!

1 Thessalonians 5:24 (NKJV) He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.

Whatever fighting needed to be done, God would have fought through Israel! Whatever work needed to be done, God would have done through them! God has never wanted men to live for Him, but rather for Him to live through men (Galatians 2:20)! The law is men living for God (that didn’t work out). The new covenant is the Spirit living through us as we believe in Jesus (Romans 7:6).

The people saw Canaan, acknowledged it was a good land, but rejected it because they thought it would take so much work to get there. So many of us are doing that with the plan of God for our lives. We hear about the good things we have in us and the BIG potential that means for our lives, but we’d rather live like slaves on the earth than accept His plan, because we think it will be so much work to get there.

We hear about all the people God wants to heal and raise from the dead through us, but it just seems so far beyond us. Maybe one or two, but thousands? Millions? Or maybe just through someone else.

We hear about all the ministry opportunities He wants to fund through us, but it just seems so far beyond our budget. Maybe dropping a few dollars in the basket at church, but millions of dollars’ worth of projects? Billions of dollars?

We hear about all the exploits He wants to do through us, but it just seems like so much work. Yes, maybe some witnessing at work, but calling fire down from Heaven and testifying before kings?

… because of this reasoning, we won’t mentally accept the good land God wants to bring us into. We will only accept the things that will fit within our spare time, spare money, and spare strength. But why? Do people not want Heaven on earth? Do they not want perfection? Do they not want big results? Of course they do! They won’t let their mind go there because they think they need to do it and they know they’re not enough. The good news is, God wants to do it through you, if you’ll believe Him.

Hebrews 13:20-21 (KJV) Now the God of peace… Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Once you realize that the Holy Spirit has been given to you to live through you, to fulfill every good plan that God has for your life (as you believe) you’ll let your mind run wild on all the potential God has through you, because you’re not limited by yourself anymore!

Here’s an illustration that will make my point very well.

Imagine you’re traveling for the company you work for. You don’t make a ton of money. You need to get a flight, a hotel, arrange meals, but you need to pay for it yourself. You’ll probably be pretty frugal with the arrangements you make. You won’t be looking at first class seats. You’ll won’t search for the ritzy hotels. You won’t go to fancy restaurants.

Now, why is that the case? Do you not like flying first-class, ritzy hotels, or nice restaurants? No, it’s not that. The truth is, when you’re living on your own resources, it makes you very conservative with the options you entertain.

Now, let’s say the company tells you, “Here’s the company card. Buy whatever you need. Don’t be shy. We have a surplus.” Well, in that case, you might allow your mind to entertain a first-class seat. You might entertain a nicer hotel or restaurant. Why? Because, since you don’t have to pay for it, you’re not limited to your own resources anymore. Your mind has been freed up to entertain options you wouldn’t have entertained otherwise.

Likewise, when you realize you don’t have to do the plans of God for your own life, you stop thinking within the realm of what you can do or afford. It expands your mind to think within the realm of what God’s grace can do through you! Because you’re living off His resources, not your own!

The only reason why we are so conservative with the thoughts we entertain for our lives is because we truly believe God is asking us to perform it or pay for it ourselves. We won’t even allow our mind to go outside the borders of our own abilities because we think God’s asking us to do it. Just like Israel.

Once you realize it’s on God’s dime, by His ability, with the provision Jesus provided at the cross, while you’re resting — wow, the possibilities! You see? It frees your mind to accept the impossible because we’re not thinking in the box of our own resources anymore. When it’s on your dime, you need to be “practical.” If you believe it’s on His dime, it kicks “practical” right out the door.

If you’re living for God, you are limited by the potential of your own flesh. If you’re dead and He’s living through you, then your potential is dead and His potential is alive!

Stop thinking within the boundaries of what you can do yourself. God’s not asking you to spend your own resources. Start thinking within the boundaries of what Jesus’ provision can accomplish through you! You’re pre-qualified by His blood (Colossians 1:12)!

Entertain all the possibilities that you never have before because you have the resources of God at your disposal now. You’ve got the company card.
