I have heard many people that have either given up on their faith or backed off of seeking the Lord. Many, if not most of them, say that it’s because of betrayal or hypocrisy that they see in the church. But we are missing something if we are leaving God because of something one of His kids did. God is not asking us for any payment for the things He’s given, but when things hinder our knowledge of Jesus, those are things we should certainly let go of — not as if we’re offering it to God, but for our own sake. Trust me, when you give something up to know Jesus more, you’re not making a sacrifice. You’re letting go of the things that make you poor, for a Wisdom that wants to make you rich.

There is a term in the church today — “on fire for God.” Ultimately, this is a term that is used for someone when they are extremely enthusiastic about God; often accompanied by a lot of very fast and visible results. While I’m not trying to dissuade anyone from being excited about the Lord, mere enthusiasm is not what we should be looking for in a person.

It’s funny, we will pray for the sick sometimes, as believers, but the second someone dies we usually throw up our hands and think, “Well, we tried.” But there’s no difference between raising the dead and healing the sick. One is not harder than the other. They’re both things Jesus provided for, both situations that need life, and both things that we can pray for just the same.
