When God speaks to you, He doesn’t just speak for your present, but also with your future in mind. God will speak ahead of time to prepare you for things to come. That way, when you get there, you’re equipped with the right knowledge to prosper! That puts a great importance on remembering what He’s already said.
John 13:19 (NKJV) Now I tell you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe that I am He.
Sometimes, God gives us a word about a person or a situation. It encourages us in that moment. We’re seeing things from a Jesus-centered perspective. Then time goes by, we get busy with other things, and we find ourselves having doubts or concerns. Many times, those doubts and concerns would have been alleviated by the very word God had already spoken to us! He spoke that truth with your future in mind.
Sometimes, we don’t know the truth and need to learn. That’s true. But many times, we get worried or concerned about things simply because we’ve forgotten the word that God has already spoken to us! If we trust Him with it, the Lord will bring things to our remembrance that He has already spoken! Many times, it’s those very things that would alleviate our present doubts.
John 14:26 (NKJV) But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.
When God gives us a word — whether in scripture, through another person, or directly into our hearts — it’s important that we remember it! Even jot it down somewhere to remember it. After all, God had the writers of scripture keep record of His word so it could be remembered for generations.
God isn’t speaking for His own health or assurance. It’s for yours! But God doesn’t only speak to you for your present needs. He also speaks for your future. He prepares you so that you can prosper going forward. If we treat God’s words casually or loosely, we will find ourselves having doubts or going through problems that could’ve been avoided by something He already told you!
God will speak beforehand about things that are applicable later, so remember what He’s said before. Many of your current problems or concerns can be taken care of with something He’s already said.
