MOUNTAIN/HILL

Definition:

Heaven or a native of Heaven. 

Scripture:

• Heaven and hills are used interchangeably.

2 Samuel 22:8 (KJV) Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations of heaven moved and shook, because he was wroth.

Psalms 18:7 (KJV) Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations also of the hillsmoved and were shaken, because he was wroth.

• Hebrews says that there is a kind of mountain that cannot be touched (intangible). Then he refers to this mountain as being the “heavenly Jerusalem” (referring to heaven).

Hebrews 12:18-24 (KJV) For ye are not come unto the mount that might be touched, (intangible mountain) and that burned with fire, nor unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest…  Verse 22  But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, 23 To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect, 24  And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.

• The writer of Hebrews states that the things prescribed under the Law were just a copy of the heavenly pattern —  a copy of Heaven. The old testament verse that he uses to substantiate this simply says “make all things according to the pattern shown to you ‘in the mountain.’” This is not speaking about Mount Sinai, but Heaven. Otherwise why would he use that verse to prove that Heaven was the pattern after which things under the Law were made?

• Also notice that he says “in the mount” and not “on the mount.”

Hebrews 8:5 (KJV) Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount.

• The Lord is said to dwell in “the hills.”

Psalms 3:4 (KJV) I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.

Psalms 121:1-2 (KJV) I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. 2 My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.

More Examples Of Use

• Jesus and the Devil went into a “high” mountain from which they could see “ALL” the kingdoms of the world at once. That’s quite a view.

Luke 4:5 (KJV)  And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.

• When you cast out a demon it goes down to the sea (Hell) (See definitions for “Waterless Pit” or “Sea”). In reference to casting a demon (heavenly being) back into Hell…

Mark 11:23 (NKJV)  For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.

• The sea (place of the dead, under the earth) is called “the bottoms (base/foundation) of the mountains.” Hell may be the lowest level of the heavens. Or perhaps this verse just means that Hell is underneath the heavens.

Jonah 2:2 (KJV)  And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.  VERSE 5  The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head. 6 I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God.
