People without Jesus need constant “escapes from reality.” They try to drown out the reality of their world with things like drugs, alcohol, parties, TV, video games, vacations, and even sleep. They are happiest when they are not remembering the real world, but for a believer, it’s all the contrary. We are happiest when our eyes are opened to our world.

Since Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, God had been teaching the Jewish people the gospel. One of the manifestations of their belief in the gospel was God’s promise that they would inherit the land of Canaan. God had been speaking this promise to them for generations, and when the Jews were enslaved by Pharaoh, God raised up Moses and Aaron to reiterate this promise to the Jews once again, and to deliver them from their slavery to Pharaoh, in a trajectory toward Canaan, the land of promise.

Sometimes we have family members, friends, and people close to us that either don’t choose Jesus or refuse large portions of the gospel. It is inevitable that certain people are just not open right now to certain truths. I’m sure you’ve heard about “Paul’s thorn in the flesh” that is mentioned in 2 Corinthians 12. Even unbelievers will use the phrase “a thorn in my flesh” or “a thorn in my side” for things that are annoying or irritating. But this passage of scripture has been so terribly misinterpreted, and God has been accused of some atrocities that He never committed because of it.

We’re told that the bad feeling you get inside after you do something wrong is just the conviction of the Holy Spirit trying to steer you right. But that feeling doesn’t come from the Holy Spirit at all. It comes from your conscience! The church has mixed up the Holy Spirit with their conscience for a very long time.

In the book of Numbers, the people of Israel were bitten by serpents. So, God commanded Moses to make a brass serpent on a pole. And when the people looked upon that serpent on a pole, they lived, being healed from their serpent bite. In John chapter 3, Jesus says that the serpent on that pole represented Him on the cross. But why is Jesus represented as a serpent? Well, there is much deeper symbolism here, but let’s put it plainly:

When we don’t believe that we can trust the Lord with something, that’s the time when we take things into our own hands and force an issue. But I assure you, if you desire a marriage relationship, the Lord is ready, willing, and able, through the sacrifice of Jesus, to add someone to you.

Jesus has provided us healing for sickness (Isaiah 53:5). He has provided resurrection for the dead (John 11:25). He has provided everlasting strength for weakness and corruption (Isaiah 40:31). And because Jesus has provided a full solution to every single problem you could possibly encounter, there’s no longer any such thing as permanent or lifelong issues. No such thing.
