Christians tend to be very family oriented, which is a good thing, because we have a responsibility to our family first. But Christians also tend to think that taking joy from your physical family or friends is something of a virtue. This is simply not correct.

The Lord doesn’t want us to take our joy from anything that is changing. In our last part we mentioned the instability and inaccuracy of people’s opinion of us. But did you know that God doesn’t even want us to take our joy from manifestations of the Holy Spirit? That may sound strange, but it’s absolutely true.

Do you know why people’s rejection takes such a toll on us sometimes? It’s because many of us trust in people’s opinion of us when they are accepting us. We value their opinion so much when they compliment us. And so, when people reject us or criticize us, we have trained our mind to value a man’s opinion of our worth.
