God’s love is not understood merely by the words, “I love you.” God wanted to demonstrate His love toward us so that we would never doubt the love He has for us. It was not only in word but in deed (Romans 5:8). So today, I want you to read the following questions to the Lord yourself. All these questions are about portions of the inheritance that Jesus has given us through His sacrifice.
Nothing will make you understand God’s love more than when you remember the things He did to prove it. I think you’ll see that the Lord’s actions speak volumes about how He feels about you.
Ask the Lord these things. Pause and think about what the answer could be.
Why did you want me to live?
Why did you break your body to mend mine?
Why did you share everything you have with me?
Why did you lift me from dishonor and give me your position?
Why did you take all my hurts on yourself, instead of letting me endure them?
Why did you want to wipe all my tears away?
Why did you say you wanted my happiness to be full?
Why won’t you let anyone accuse me in front of you?
Why did you fight enemies that were my own to fight?
Why would you not let them hurt me?
Why wouldn’t you let me be punished, even when it was my fault?
Why did you wipe the record of my wrongs away from your book?
When you saw me working, why did you give me rest?
Why did you take note of me specifically, to draw me to yourself?
Why did you rejoice when I became yours?
Why did you go through so much pain and heartache, if you knew that all you were getting was me?
Why didn’t you stop, even when it hurt?
Why is the day you married me called “the day of the gladness of your heart”?
Put these questions together and you realize there’s only one answer. “Because He loves you.”
There is no other explanation why someone would go through so much, to give you so much, except that they were deeply in love with you. And the Lord is very much in love with you. These things can’t be explained any other way. No one does these things unless they’re in love.
God doesn’t just say He loves you. His actions are crying it out.
