Easy Verses: Youth For Our Body

God plants the seed of His word in your mind, not merely for the sake of information, but to produce fruit on the outside. So, here are a few seeds of youth from scripture, to conform you to His youngness!

Our “Easy Verses” articles are a collection of only the simplest verses to share with others. This is not meant to be a teaching. Full scriptural evidence for this topic can be found in our other resources. Click for teaching on this topic.

For clarification: when we refer to “aging” in this article, we are not referring to a child maturing into full growth and strength. We are also not referring to passing time. We are referring to the physical process of weakness, decay, and corruption called being “old” in the Bible.

The Bottom Line: We Are Like Jesus Now. He Is Young.

  • The most foundational thing to prove that believers have youth for their bodies is that we have what Jesus has. Romans 8:17 says we are joint heirs with Christ. 2 Corinthians 3:18 says we need to behold Jesus as in a mirror (look at Him to see who we are, James 1:23-24). 1 John 4:17 says as Jesus is, so are we in this world (not the one to come). Ephesians 1:19-20 says we have the same power that gave Jesus a glorified body (which does not grow old).
  • If we are joint heirs with Jesus, and we see that Jesus does not grow old, then we have that same power. He is ancient in time (Daniel 7:9), but he never grows old in quality. He is the same.

Hebrews 1:11-12 (NKJV) THEY WILL PERISH, BUT YOU REMAIN; AND THEY WILL ALL GROW OLD [in contrast to Jesus] LIKE A GARMENT; 12 LIKE A CLOAK YOU WILL FOLD THEM UP, AND THEY WILL BE CHANGED. BUT YOU ARE THE SAME, AND YOUR YEARS WILL NOT FAIL.”

  • Not only does 2 Corinthians 3:18 say that we should relate to Jesus (look at Him like our mirror), but that we would be transformed (outer form changed) into the same image of the glorified state of Jesus, which does not grow old.
  • Most Christians are crying out for God to make them more like Jesus. Then why not youth? Jesus never grows old. That is, unless we only want to be conformed to certain parts of Jesus. Maybe just the easy things we can do ourselves?

Our Youth Renewed

Psalms 103:1-5 (NKJV) A Psalm Of David. Bless the LORD, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! 2Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: 3 Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, 4 Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, 5 Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

  • This “youth like the eagles” is not like human youth. This is referring to everlasting youth. In Isaiah 40, it doesn’t say “youth like the eagles” but “renewed strength like the eagles.” He says it is everlasting strength that God increases to us, and it is unlike human youth that can still grow faint and weary.

Isaiah 40:28-31 (NKJV) Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the LORD, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. 29 He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength [the strength that neither faints nor is weary]. 30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall, 31 But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.

  • Elihu is the only man in the book of Job that was not corrected by God. Elihu’s solution to Job’s suffering was to direct Job to the Intercessor (Jesus). He states that if Job had a mediator with him, a ransom, his flesh would be fresher than a child’s. In verse 29 Elihu says God works this repeatedly with men, showing that this was even available at the time (pre-Christ).

Job 33:21-30 (KJV) His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; and his bones that were not seen stick out. 22 Yea, his soul draweth near unto the grave, and his life to the destroyers.
23 If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter [intercessor, NKJV says mediator], one among a thousand, to shew unto man his uprightness [the intercessor’s, presumably]: 24 Then he [presumably God] is gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom [a redemption price]. 25 His flesh shall be fresher than a child’s: he shall return to the days of his youth: 26 He shall pray unto God, and he will be favourable unto him: and he shall see his face with joy: for he will render unto man his righteousness.

Aging In Abraham’s Body Is Called Death (The Curse Of Adam)

  • The aging of Abraham’s body is referred to as “death.” Abraham was believing that God gives life to the dead (specifically referring to his aged body).

Romans 4:17-19 (NKJV) …Him whom he [Abraham] believed—God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did;
Verse 19) And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb.

  • By calling Abraham’s aged body “dead” (not “as good as dead” as in paraphrase translations, but “dead”), it denotes that aging is part of the curse that came through Adam, because death only came through Adam’s sin.

Romans 5:12 (KJV) Wherefore, as by one man [Adam] sin entered into the world, and death [the curse] by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

Romans 8:2 (KJV) For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

  • A few more examples of death through Adam: Paul called his sufferings “death working in him” (2 Corinthians 4:12). Paul referred to the disabled womb of Sarah as “the deadness of Sarah’s womb” (Romans 4:19). Paul refers to a corruptible body as being dead, even while a person still lives (Romans 8:10).

Oldness Was Used As A Curse Under The Law

  • Oldness was even used as a curse under the law and Jesus has redeemed us from the curse of the law (Gal 3:13).

Lamentations 3:3-4 (NKJV) Surely He has turned His hand against me Time and time again throughout the day. 4 He has aged my flesh and my skin, And broken my bones.

  • David says, while under the law, before he confessed his sins, the hand of the Lord was heavy on him, and it caused his bones to grow old. This shows that oldness is a curse. It also shows that forgiveness of sins is the cure.

Psalms 32:1-5 (NKJV) A Psalm of David. A Contemplation. Blessed is he whose transgression is forgivenWhose sin is covered. 2 Blessed is the man to whom the LORD does not impute iniquity, And in whose spirit there is no deceit. 3 When I kept silent [did not confess sins], my bones grew old Through my groaning all the day long. 4 For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; My vitality was turned into the drought of summer. Selah 5 I acknowledged my sin to You, And my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,” And You forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah

Health (Leaf) And Strength (Fruit) That Doesn’t Fade

  • The word “leaf” in the Bible can be used for health or even medicine (as in healing – see Ezekiel 47:12 and Revelations 22:2).
  • The word “fruit” in the Bible represents “an exertion of strength” (see “Fruit” on our glossary).
  • Due to sin, it is natural for mankind, for their health (leaf) and strength (fruit) to fade with age.

Isaiah 64:6 (KJV) But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all [the unrighteous] do fade as a leaf [health fading]; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

  • For those who meditate on the true gospel, it is promised our health (leaf) and strength (fruit) would not cease and never fade.

Psalms 1:1-3 (KJV) Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly… But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. 3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water [Spirit], that bringeth forth his fruit [strength] in his season; his leaf also shall not wither[health does not wither]; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

Jeremiah 17:7-8 (KJV) Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD [as Psalms said meditate], and whose hope [lit. confidence] the LORD is. 8 For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters [Spirit], and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see [or consider] when heat cometh, but her leaf [health] shall be green[lit. fresh, green]; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit [strength].

  • Psalms and Jeremiah say our health and strength would not fade, if we would meditate/trust in the Lord. 3 John changes the terminology slightly to say “prosper and be in health” as our soul prospers.

3 John 1:2 (YLT) beloved, concerning all things I desire thee to prosper [instead of fruit], and to be in health [leaf not wither/fresh], even as thy soul doth prosper [meditate/trust]

Psalms 92:12-14 (KJV) The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. 13Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God. 14 They shall still bring forth fruit [strength] in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing;

The Grass Withers, But We’re Born Of The Incorruptible

  • In various places of scripture, it will speak of mankind as “the grass withering and the flower fading.” Most Christians relate to this. While this is applicable to mere human flesh, the Bible is not comparing New Testament believers to this but contrasting us with it! We are born of incorruptible seed, not corruptible.

1 Peter 1:23-25 (KJV) Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. 24 For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: 25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever [the seed we are born of]. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

Caleb

  • Of course, the only example of our inheritance is the glorified Jesus, but here is a small example of it working in someone’s body.

Joshua 14:10-11 (NKJV) And now, behold, the LORD has kept me alive, as He said, these forty-five years, ever since the LORD spoke this word to Moses while Israel wandered in the wilderness; and now, here I am this day, eighty-five years old. 11 As yet I am as strong this day as on the day that Moses sent me; just as my strength was then, so now is my strength for war, both for going out and for coming in.
