It is quite common to hear about “the renewal of the mind” at Reform Church. It is necessary that our physical mind be renewed to realize all that we have in Jesus! But you actually already have a fully renewed mind!

As much as our physical mind needs to be renewed, so that the Holy Spirit can transform us, in our spirit dwells a fully renewed mind. The mind of our spirit has been fully renewed to think exactly like Jesus thinks. 

Colossians 3:10 (NKJV) and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him,

As new creations, we are ALREADY renewed in knowledge just like the one who created us! Inside of you, you think exactly like Jesus! If you are a believer right now, you are thinking exactly what Jesus is thinking. You know all of scripture front to back. You know every detail of the truths of the gospel! You know all things past. You know all things future. You have a fully renewed mind that was a gift from God, through Jesus! It had nothing to do with your work or your effort, and it has nothing to do with how long you have been a Christian. It’s a gift, simply because you’ve received Jesus.

As your physical mind is renewed, you’re not acquiring new knowledge. You are just receiving from the renewed mind that you already have inside of you. In fact, the only reason why your physical mind can be renewed, is because the mind of your spirit is already renewed. Your physical mind is just catching up to the fully renewed mine inside of you. You don’t have a deficit of knowledge. You don’t have any immaturity in spiritual matters within you. You simply have need to give your attention to the word of God, so that you can receive from everything you already know inside of you.

When you read your Bible, for instance, you’re reading things you already know. Now, as you give heed to the word of God, that knowledge will come from the inside of you into your physical mind, but you already know it in your spirit (Hebrews 12:23). 

When the apostle John wrote his letter to the believers (which is included in our Bible today), he said that he wasn’t writing those things to them because they didn’t know them, but because they already knew them.

1 John 2:20-21 (NKJV) But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things. I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and that no lie is of the truth.

Here, John not only tells them that they already know everything that he’s writing to them, but he also says that they know all things! Now, if the people already knew all the things John was writing, then why did he even have to write to them? Well, John isn’t saying that they already knew these things in their physical mind. They didn’t! He is saying that they already knew these things on the inside, in their spirit. That’s why he says that they knew all things through the “anointing” which they had (which is referring to God’s Spirit who had shared His knowledge with them). 

John was writing these wonderful truths to them, with the confidence that they could understand them, because he knew they already had this knowledge inside of them and it was capable of flowing out. It’s because we already have a fully renewed mind inside of us, that we are able to understand truths like John was writing. Because we have a fully renewed mind inside, that means we have the capability to understand, in our physical mind, anything the Lord understands. The knowledge just needs to go from inside of us to our head. And that happens as our head gives its full attention to the word of God.

We already know all the truth that God wants to show our physical mind. That’s because our born again spirit has the same mind as Jesus. 

1 Corinthians 2:16 (NKJV) But we have the mind of Christ.

Inside of you is a fully renewed mind. In fact, when you’re learning truth, that’s just the thoughts that are already in you, manifesting into your physical mind. When your physical mind is being renewed, it’s only receiving the thoughts that your spirit is already thinking! Your flesh is just rethinking the thoughts that your spirit has already thought! Take a quick look down at your body right now. Go ahead, take a quick look down. Right inside of there, is a spirit that is completely renewed in knowledge, just like the One who created it. Even the things we’re discussing right now, your spirit is fully aware of, and then some. 

So believer, don’t tell me you can’t learn Jesus. Don’t tell me you can’t know the deep things of God. Don’t tell me you’re a confused person. You’re not confused. You just haven’t realized all the good ideas you already have in your spirit. 

So as you’re spending time with the Lord, acknowledge this truth that Jesus already put inside of you, and everything your spirit already knows, will spill over into your physical mind. 

Now, whenever you hear someone say, “God only knows,” you can say, “No, me too!”
