Young Like Jesus – Part 3: Oldness Is For Sinners

Length: 5 minutes

In our last part, we saw that aging, hurt, and weakness is just corruption that came into the world because of Adam’s sin. Everyone was initially born of Adam, and because everyone was born into his sin, they were also born into this corruption. But all of this is old news for a believer. Most Christians overlook the fact that Jesus cleansed us of the very sin which is the root of corruption. Now He gave us His righteousness instead, which only causes life to our bodies!

Romans 8:10 (NKJV) And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

Adam’s sin (not your individual sins) is the root of all aging. When you really know that, it reveals how important it is to be cleansed of sin! Being cleansed of sin frees us from all its repercussions, including aging! People don’t age because it’s always been around. It hasn’t always been around. God didn’t create things that way!

Of course, I’m not referring to merely maturing, getting taller, or growing stronger. I’m talking about oldness as it pertains to hurt, weakness, or corruption (as we spoke of in our last part). God didn’t create things like that. People age because of that one man’s sin.

Now think about this for a second: If we were never born into Adam’s sin, we would have never been born into his corruption. Therefore, people would never be weak, hurt, or grow old (in the way that we’re speaking). Wouldn’t that be great if we were never born into Adam’s sin? Or alternatively, you could just be cleansed of that sin by the blood of Jesus! That works even better! Do you realize what this means? We have been cleansed of the one thing that causes aging! We have been cleansed of it! We found a way out of it! This is excellent news.

You cannot realize these things and continue to think and speak the same about oldness. When you realize this, you realize you have nothing to do with oldness anymore. Only sinners are associated with oldness. People that are righteous through Jesus are only associated with youth. When you realize these things, you’ll stop talking about yourself as old and start talking about yourself as forever young. Why? Because oldness is corruption, and corruption only comes through sin. So, if we’re cleansed of Adams sin, then we can no longer rightfully associate ourselves with his corruption either. Jesus has broken our association with oldness.

Now, instead of the nature of Adam, the Lord has given us His divine nature. We have a nature that is forever young and never changing. It is everlasting and never corrupting. That nature is inside of us. A nature that (as we learned in the first part) is intended to be given to your physical body!

Corruption and aging are so not a part of your new nature that God doesn’t even refer to corruption as being yours, but only as being the world’s!

2 Peter 1:4 (NKJV) …by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Did you catch that? He said the “corruption that is in the world.” Even though, at the time of writing this, the Lord knew that many believers had bodies which were experiencing temporary pain or problems. He still said that corruption is “in the world.” Why? Because God does not associate you with sickness, injury, oldness, or any kind of bodily corruption anymore. And unless God is living in a fantasy, I think we have some catching up to do in our minds.

In fact, that verse says that you’ve already escaped the corruption that’s in this world! But how can God say that we’ve already escaped corruption, even if we see some light and momentary issue in our bodies right now? Well, I have a better question: How could God not say that you’ve escaped corruption, if you have been cleansed of the sin that causes it?

If you’re free from sin, then you’re free from death. If you’re free from lust, then you’re free from the corruption that comes from it! Corruption can only bind someone if they are in Adam’s sin! But the moment the Lord cleanses you of that sin, is the moment that you are free from all its effects, including oldness!

When I speak about being clean from sin, I’m not saying you are clean because you never do anything wrong. All the contrary. I’m saying you are clean because Jesus did something right, at the cross! You are 100% free from sin, because of what Jesus did, through faith in Him — not based on what you do. And because you’re free from sin, you’re free from its effects. All of them.

We will go over more specifics in future parts of this series but being old is the nature of sinners. Being young is the nature of the righteous. You have as much to do with Adam’s oldness, as you do with Adams sin.So you have already escaped oldness! You have been given God’s divine nature of youngness! That’s not a future reality. That’s a present reality. It’s in you, right now! And God said in 2 Peter that you can partake of this new, divine nature of yours!

If this blessed you, share this with someone else. More people need to understand this awesome truth.
