Young Like Jesus – Part 2: Life Because Of Righteousness

Length: 5 minutes

Most believers walk around talking about aging just like the world does. They talk about it like it’s part of their nature to age, but Jesus stripped that from you the day you were cleansed of sin.

We discuss this frequently, but it’s fundamental to mention: Every problem in this world can be defined as either sin or death. The Bible says that those are the only two problems that came into this world through Adam (Romans 5:12). Sin involves things like wrong thoughts and wrong actions. Death encompasses all suffering, hurt, sickness, and aging. It doesn’t just refer to deceasing. You may have never heard that before, but it’s the biblical truth.

Paul called his sufferings “death working in him” (2 Corinthians 4:12). Paul referred to the inoperative womb of Sarah as “the deadness of Sarah’s womb” (Romans 4:19). Paul refers to a corruptible body as being dead, even while a person still lives (Romans 8:10). And Abrahams aged body, is said to have needed “life from the dead” — clearly classifying His agedness as “deadness” (Romans 4:17, 19).

I want to stress that, what I’m describing right now, is not a current problem for a believer, nor should it ever be represented as such (as we will see in this series). A believer only has mind renewal to undergo, to experience the freedom they already possess (Romans 8:21). I am only showing you how the word death is used in the Bible, because if you don’t know what the word “death” entails, then you won’t know what you’re free from when God tells you that you’re free from it.

Death is not simply a reference to deceasing. Death is a process of corruption, which is why Paul could apply that word to a person’s body, even while they are still living. And also why Abrahams aging is referred to as deadness, which needed the life of God — a life, which he did receive to his body. Death is just a process of corruption in an ordinary human body that happened through Adam.

In fact, Peter uses the word “corruption” instead of saying “death.” In 2 Peter 1, instead of saying sin and death, Peter says lust and corruption. He says “lust” instead of “sin,” and he says “corruption” instead of “death,” but he still referring to the same two problems that are in the world.

2 Peter 1:4 (NKJV) …that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Paul called it death in the world. Peter called it corruption in this world. But regardless of what you call it, this is the process that Adam started in this world. Whether it’s aging, sickness, weakness, or scraping your knee, all this falls under the category of death and corruption. And those are just results of sin.

Funny thing though, if all this corruption came into the world through sin, and the only reason why human bodies undergo corruption and decay is because they are born into Adam’s sin, what happens if Jesus cleanses your sin? Just curious. If all this aging, sickness, imperfection, or the scraped knee that we mentioned before is only in the world, because man is born in Adam’s sin, then what happens when Jesus cleanses you of that sin? I’ll tell you what that means. It means that if you’re free from the cause, then you’re free from the effect. If you’re free from the sin that causes death and corruption, then you’re free from the effect, that is corruption.

Corruption may come through sin, but aren’t we cleansed of sin as believers? Of course, we are! Now, for us, we have life that can be given to our mortal bodies because of righteousness!

Romans 8:10 (NKJV) And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.  …He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

Death only sticks to sin. Life sticks to righteousness. Sin used to be your ticket to Adam’s corruption, but Jesus has now given you His righteousness as your ticket to His everlasting empowerment for your body!

Everlasting life will work miracles in your body. Contrary to how Adam’s corruption which caused aging, when God gives eternal life to your body, it increases strength, it reverses corruption, and keeps you in everlasting youth (Isaiah 40:31 and Psalms 103:5). This everlasting life, which never changes and never grows old, is able to be given to your mortal body!

I’m not talking about somebody else right now. I’m talking about you. Everyone needs this for their body — from 1 year old to more than 100 years old. No matter your age, everyone is bound to corruption without Jesus, and everyone is free from it with Him! This life was intended by God for your body! And you are qualified to walk in it, through righteousness, which Jesus has given you as a gift.

It’s sin that is the cause of aging, weakness, sickness and any form of Adam’s corruption. So the only people that are bound to those things are those that are still in their sins! As for those that are righteous through Jesus, you are only bound to life for your body! That’s it! You are no more a part of Adam’s aging and oldness than you are a part of his sin. That’s a fact.

So let’s let go of “old thinking” (literally and figuratively) and get to know the truth of who we are in Jesus! It’s better than you think.

If this blessed you, share this with someone else. More people need to understand this awesome truth.
