If you didn’t know, everlasting life is not a reference to heaven; not at all. In the church today, everlasting life has been defined as “going to heaven” or even “having a relationship with God.” But if we look at what the Bible says, neither are true.
Everlasting life is something that Jesus put inside of you by His spirit. Jesus told the Jews that if they didn’t receive Him, they would not have any eternal life in them. He didn’t say that they wouldn’t be able to enjoy eternal life sometime after they died. He said that they didn’t have that life inside of them, as if he expected that it should be within them.

John 6:47 (NKJV) Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has [is in possession of] everlasting life. Verse 53) Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you.
Obviously, Jesus sees eternal life as something that is either in a person or not in a person. It’s inside of those who receive Jesus, and it is not inside of those who don’t. It’s as simple as that. Here’s another verse confirming that fact:
1 John 3:15 (NKJV) Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.
But what does this mean to have eternal life inside of us? The word life is kind of like saying the word “power.” You can see our glossary for more details. The life of God is a power on the inside of every believer, an eternal power that is able to sustain things forever. And this life (this eternal life) lives in us, and is intended to be given to our physical bodies
Romans 8:11 (NKJV) But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.
Did you see that? The life of the Spirit of God that we have inside of us, is meant to be given to our mortal bodies. That is its prescribed use. That is God’s intention with this eternal life inside of us — to give it to our bodies. And no, this is not reserved for some time to come. We are advised by God to lay hold of the eternal life within us now!
1 Timothy 6:12 (NKJV) Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life…
So, to sum it up, eternal life is a gift that God has put on the inside of us, it’s a kind of eternal power that is intended to be given to our mortal bodies, and God wants us to lay hold of it right now!
What does it mean to have eternal life given to our bodies? Well, human bodies change and experience wear and tear, but it’s a totally different situation when eternal life is given to it. Because the life we have is eternal, it can keep our bodies from changing and reverse the change that has already happened. How do I know this? Because this eternal life of the Spirit, that is given to our bodies, is the same life that was given to Jesus’ dead body, which raised him into the state he is today. We know what it looks like when this life is given to our body, because we know what it did to the body of Jesus! The Bible makes it very clear in Romans 8:11 and Ephesians 1:20 that it is the same life that was given to Jesus’ mortal body! Jesus is just the proof of concept (or the first to receive it, the forerunner, the firstborn).
When eternal life is given to our mortal bodies, it transforms our bodies into the likeness of Jesus body. A body that always looks the same, never changes, and never gets old. And you’ve got the same everlasting life inside of you right now. It remains. It’s always the same. It never corrupts. It never grows faint.
This is not just for some people. Jesus died to provide this to you. It’s your right. It’s your inheritance. And if you will learn with us, God promises that it will be given to your mortal body as well, to conform it to look like His.

If this blessed you, share this with someone else. More people need to understand this awesome truth.
