Do you know why people’s rejection takes such a toll on us sometimes? It’s because many of us trust in people’s opinion of us when they are accepting us. We value their opinion so much when they compliment us. And so, when people reject us or criticize us, we have trained our mind to value a man’s opinion of our worth.
You can’t go all your life trusting people’s opinion of you when it’s positive, and then expect that you’re not going to trust their opinion when they reject you. That’s not how it works. You don’t get to take the positive from people without inevitably accepting their negative opinion as well. You can either take your self-worth and identity from people’s opinion of you, or take your identity from God’s opinion of you. Those are your choices.
John 5:44 (NKJV) How can you believe, who receive honor from one another, and do not seek the honor that comes from the only God?
When someone accepts us and praises us, and we take our comfort from it, we are training our mind to measure ourself by people’s opinion. And then when someone rejects us, we want to suddenly start trusting the Lord’s acceptance of us. But it’s a lot easier if you just practice the truth all the time!
When someone accepts you, that’s an excellent thing. Blessed are those who bless you! And when someone compliments you, there’s nothing wrong with that at all; especially when they are speaking in line with who you are in Jesus! That kind of reminder is imperative. But when someone accepts you, while you can thank them for their partnership or encouragement, you should say in your heart, “I trust your acceptance Lord. I don’t trust in the acceptance of man.” That is the correct mentality to have. Then when someone rejects you or dislikes you, you can say in your heart, “I trust your acceptance Lord. I don’t trust in the acceptance of man.” You simply continue to practice that same truth; always trusting the Lord, rather than trusting man’s opinion when it’s convenient.
Your emotions will be so much steadier when you trust the acceptance of the Lord all the time! There’s never a time where you don’t have the full acceptance of the Lord, as a believer. Jesus has brought you into the perfect favor of God, making perfect peace between you and Him (Ephesians 2:17). That favor and peace is never broken and it never wavers. Therefore, the more you trust His opinion of you, the more steady your emotions will be — never broken and never wavering.
Don’t just trust in God’s acceptance when people reject you. Actually, be all the more careful to trust in it when people are accepting you, knowing that the acceptance of man is temperamental and fleeting, while the favor of God toward you is secured forever through Jesus! Now have a great day knowing that!
Ephesians 1:6 (NKJV) …to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.

If this blessed you, share this with someone else. More people need to understand this awesome truth.
