Constant Reminders – Part 2

Length: 2 minutes

Of course, God wants to continue to teach us so that we can mature in our knowledge of Jesus, but many times the very thing you need to hear right now, is something you already know. It just needs to be stirred up.

Now, this doesn’t apply to every person and in every situation, because many people don’t know the Lord very well. In which case, it’s no problem, just continue to hear the word of God and be equipped with the right knowledge. But many times, the very thing we need to hear that will encourage us, strengthen us, and bear fruit in our lives is something we’ve already heard (John 14:26)!

There are many truths that you may have heard about Jesus, but it is possible for that knowledge to be sort of “dormant” in your mind. What I mean is, it is possible that, although you know that truth, it is not active or in the forefront of your mind. So, although you know that truth, you’re not experiencing the full fruit that you could be experiencing from it. You’re not experiencing the full joy and emotional benefit that you could be experiencing from it — and not because you don’t know it, but because you need to be reminded of it.

2 Peter 3:1-2 (NKJV) Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle (in both of which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder), that you may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us…

Notice that Peter says that he wanted to stir up their “pure minds.” That means that Peter wanted to stir up the parts of their mind that were already renewed! Not to add further knowledge, but to stir up the knowledge that they already had!

When the Lord reminds us of the truths of Jesus that we have learned, it’s like stirring up sediment that has settled in water. It’s there, but it’s not permeating the water thoroughly. The Lord wants to constantly remind us of the things that we have learned, so that we constantly experience the joy, comfort, and fruitfulness that this knowledge provides!

You could be experiencing something physically or emotionally, and think that you need a brand-new word from God. And while God can, and will, teach you more as you listen (which is necessary), one thing you always need, is to be reminded of the word of God that He has already spoken to you. We should always be open for the Lord to teach us more, but many times the answer we’re looking for, is an answer the Lord has already given us. God just wants to stir that up, by reminding you!
