When you learn something awesome about Jesus, it doesn’t stop there. Until your mind is fully renewed, you need constant reminders of these things to keep the truth fresh and active in your mind.
You’ve got circumstances around you that don’t reflect God’s will or the country that you are from. You’ve got friends and family that say things that aren’t according to Christ. You’ve got mistakes that you make that don’t give you a correct impression of who you are in Jesus. And you’ve got old thinking that, although it’s being renewed, can still linger, and perk up at times. All of this to say, you’ve got tons of people and things trying to give you a wrong perspective, and a warped view of who you are in Christ! This is where constant reminders come in!
2 Peter 1:12 (NKJV) For this reason I will not be negligent to remind you always of these things, though you know and are established in the present truth.
Peter said that, despite the fact that they already knew certain truths, he would not be negligent to always remind them. And why do we all need constant reminders of the gospel? Because, with all of the circumstances and voices in this world, speaking to us on a day-to-day basis, reminders of the gospel keep our minds on track. The Lord reminds us of the gospel, to keep our minds safe from the untruth in this world.
Philippians 3:1 (NKJV) For me to write the same things to you is not tedious, but for you it is safe.
Despite what everybody else is saying, and what circumstances are telling you, you can have a mind that is protected from all of it! The gospel that the Lord teaches you is like armor for your mind (Ephesians 6:11, 2 Corinthians 10:5! But you need to allow the Lord to clothe your mind in this armor every day! You need constant reminders of the truth of Jesus so that you don’t forget, or even slightly overlook it!
The truth of who you are in Christ is indispensable. It is life to your flesh, prolongs your days, and is your source of everlasting joy! With everything in this world giving you a wrong impression, make sure you make time for the Lord to give you a correct impression. We all need it. This is why the Lord advises us to meditate on His word day and night (constantly), because we need constant reminders so that we do not forget who Jesus is, and who we are in Him!
